Shri Kateekal Sankaranarayanan, son of Late Shri A. Sankaran Nair & Smt.K.Lekshmi Amma, was born on 15th October 1932 in Kerala.   He is married to Prof. Radha Sankaranarayanan and has one daughter.  A significant name in the Indian political scenario, Shri K. Sankaranarayanan took active participation in students’ politics and became a member of the Students Organization in 1946.  He never lost any Assembly election.

An important name in the state politics, he was elected several times to the Kerala Vidhan Sabha. He won elections as a candidate of Indian National Congress – INC.  He was first elected to the 5th Kerala Legislative Assembly (KLA) from Thrithala, 6th KLA from Sreekrishnapuram, 8th KLA from Ottappalam and also to the 11th KLA from Palghat Constituency. From 1985 to 2001, he was the Convenor of the United Democratic Front (UDF)

 From 11-04-1977 to 25-04-1977 he was the Minister for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development and Community Development in the Ministry headed by Shri K Karunakaran.  From 1980 to 1982 he was the Chairman of Committee on Government Assurances and from 1989 to 1991 he served as the Chairman of the Committee on Public Accounts.

From 27-04-1977 to 27-10-1978, he held the same portfolios in the Ministry headed by Shri A.K. Antony.  He was the Minister for Finance & Excise in the Ministry headed by Shri A.K. Antony from 25-05-2001 to 29-08-2004, and continued as MLA till May 2006 and became the convener of the coalition – United Democratic Government. He visited Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Hong Kong, African Countries, Europe, UAE and USA.   Shri K. Sankaranarayanan assumed the office of the Governor of Nagaland from February 3rd, 2007.  Shri K. Sankaranarayanan held the additional charge of the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh on …….. 2008.  He also took the additional charge of the Governor of Assam on 26th June 2009.
